Raptors Take 1 of 2 in Doubleheader Matchup
On Wednesday afternoon, the Ogden Raptors were tasked with playing a doubleheader in the wake of a rainout the previous night. Two seven-inning matchups back-to-back, set to be their first road contests of the year, and game 1 was a one-sided affair. The Raptors took a 6-nothing shutout loss due to their batting order only getting across three hits on the scoreboard. Additionally, their pitchers had a tough time firing the ball in the strike zone, surrendering 9 walks in 6 total innings of work. After the silent loss in game 1, they really needed a bounceback victory in the 2nd matchup and they delivered with a completely different story, headed by Nick Ultsch’s 2-hit 4 RBI performance. Brock Gilliam had another rock-solid start on the bump working 5 Innings, giving up 2 hits, and racking up 10 K’s.
This was a much-needed win to get the club going again as they aim to string some wins together and get a hot streak going. Dropping 9 runs after a shutout loss is a great response, and seeing their 4 through 7 hitters show off some pop in the box, with 8 hits combined between the 4 of them was a very encouraging sign. When the Raptors can fuse together solid length from their starting pitching and prowess at the plate in the middle part of the order, they become a scary team to play against. These two sides will face off again, competing for the series advantage tonight at 7:05 PM.
